Anxiety and depression are extremely common in the music industry, and treating it can be difficult when you have to balance your creativity with your need to take care of your mental health. Something that might work for you as a creative is to take CBD for your anxiety and depression as a regular maintenance medication or as an as-needed dosage for anxiety or panic attacks.

But before you decide to take it, you need to make sure that you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into and how it might affect you.

What is CBD?

You might be familiar with CBD as one of the main ingredients in marijuana. However, CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is not a psychoactive cannabinoid like THC is. Instead, it acts as a mild sedative when it binds to the endocannabinoid receptors that are spread throughout your central nervous system and brain. This helps you to come down from the adrenaline rush that often comes with anxiety and to produce more serotonin on your own, as well as to help you deal with a myriad of physical ailments at the same time.

How Can You Take It?

There are a thousand different products that you can take to use CBD for yourself, but they mostly break down into four different categories – pure oil, vaping liquid, infused foods and drinks, and infused topical products like lotions.

For anxiety, the first three of those categories are going to be your best options because they are the best way for you to get CBD oil into your system quickly. Pure oil is the most common method because it doesn’t require any extraneous devices or other foods in order to use it. You just put the right number of drops under your tongue and wait for them to absorb that way. Vaping CBD is also very popular due to the ease of taking it but presents additional problems in your lungs, throat, and mouth because you are essentially smoking it. Infused food and drinks can take a little more effort to make, but it can also be a way to add nutrition to what is essentially a medication. It may take some trial and error to find the preparation of CBD that works best for you and your lifestyle, but once you find one that works, you might find it incredibly helpful.

What Should You Watch For?

If you struggle with grass allergies, you might also be allergic to CBD oil. It is distilled from industrial hemp which is a type of grass. You might want to rub a little bit on your skin to test your reaction before you ingest it in any way.

You should also be careful if you take any kind of anticonvulsant or sleep medicines, because cause your body to increase the effectiveness of both products together. This can be a problem because it can throw your body out of balance. If you struggle with liver problems, you will also want to make sure to talk to your doctor before taking CBD oil. It is metabolized there, which can create additional strain on an already troubled organ.
