Download’s ‘After Dark’ activities revealed

An array of after-dark and activities for this year’s Download festival has been announced, with entertainment, club nights, comedy, and one-off events set to take place in the Campsite Village from the Wednesday before the festival, which takes place at Donington Park, June 10-12.

The ‘Bell Tent’ is now known as ‘The Doghouse’, in tribute to the Download Festival’s mascot – the Download Dog, which will host a number of activities across the weekend including the soon to be launched ‘Ink’ Clubnight – a new rock club night at the O2 Academy Birmingham. Ink at The Doghouse at Download will see top rock & metal DJ’s on the decks from Friday to Sunday night, including Radio 1’s Daniel P. Carter.

 

For the first time ever at Download, is the official ‘Fancy Dress Friday’, where all Downloaders, staff, crew, and artists will be invited to adopt this year’s theme which is zombies! Festival goers during the day will be recruited to get painted up as the walking dead, then to converge at The Doghouse for the ‘Zombie Ball’, celebrating the first day of Download 2011.

 

Set to perform in the Comedy Tent on the Wednesday and Thursday leading up to Download will be the notorious Kunt & The Gang, Andrew O’Neill, Jason Rouse, Sean Percival plus many more.

 

The Comedy Tent will then play host at the weekend to Madame Pain’s Boudoir Circus, an immersive theatrical experience incorporating Victorian-era characters, Rock Angels, swinging Trapeze acts, contortionists, ‘Hardcore Henchmen’ with ‘Hell Bitch’, acrobatics and beds of nails. The circus was conceived by Madame Pain, who has even performed with the master of horror, Alice Cooper.

 

Download’s Outdoor Cinema returns showing favourites such as South Park, Family Guy and The Simpsons.

 

VK and Jägermeister are also back for Download ’11. Accommodating adult festival goers with bar areas that includes Dj’s, rock music and great atmospheres. The ‘Jäger Rock Truck’, will host The Acoustic stage after its success last year with exclusive acoustic sets from famous live rock bands throughout the day.

 

The Tuborg ‘Beat The Intro’ tent is back at Download, fans are invited to challenge their friends on their giant bungee run for a chance to win great prizes including side of stage visits.

 

Also back this year is the customization station where folks can get painted up for the festival, and new this year is the chill out area, where you can sit back and relax with a nice cold pint of Tuborg.
