His passing occurs as the thrash metal band conducted a North American tour. A cause of death is yet to be established.

In a statement, Gwar vocalist Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus, says: “At this point, we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother. Please give your thoughts and your prayers to Cory, his family, and all the people that love him.”

The band’s publicists say no decision has been made on the status of the band’s UK tour, which was announced earlier this week and scheduled for January 2012.

The Soundsphere team offers its condolences to Gwar and the family of Cory Smoot.
