London-based rockers Turbogeist will be releasing their five track EP ‘Ancient Secrets’ March, 11 via Spinefarm Records.

Vocalist/guitarist Jimmy said, “Ancient Secrets pertains to our obsession with all things fantastical and cryptic. It’s an abstract title, but these are abstract times. We didn’t wanna make an oi oi punk angst record, although that’s how we started out. We wanted to make something more tongue-in-cheek, more weird. We were always turned on by a splatter gun of influences. We didn’t want to make a punk or hardcore or glam or thrash record; we didn’t wanna make anything that felt sonically linear. If the EP were a drug it would probably be acid, as it could go in a few directions. It could be scary, but it could also make you laugh or cry, or make you realise that nothing is real and we are all just a collection of atoms moving very fast to no discernible end.”

Their UK tour dates with Pure Love are as follows:

FEBRUARY

06 – Deaf Institute – Manchester
07 – King Tut’s – Glasgow
08 – Electric Circus – Edinburgh
09 – Duchess – York
10 – 53 Degrees – Preston
12 – Bodega – Nottingham
13 – Arts Centre – Norwich
14 – XOYO – London
18 – Haunt – Brighton
19 – Joiner’s Arms – Southampton
20 – Le Pub – Newport
21 – Croft – Bristol
22 – Temple Rooms – Birmingham
23 – Esquires – Bedford

There’s just over a week to go before the launch of this year’s Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF 2012)!

The festival will present a sparkling selection of screenings, premieres and masterclasses in venues across the city of York, UK, from the 8-11 November this year. The programme can now be found online at the ASFF 2012 website, where tickets are also available.

ASFF will once again be making good use of our beloved York to its full potential with numerous screenings and masterclasses taking place across the city.

One of the many highlights will be a celebratory screening of shorts from Warp Films, the world-famous British production company responsible for Four Lions and This is England. The festival will bring also some of the most respected members of the film industry to York, including Danny Cohen (cinematographer, The King’s Speech and Les Misérables) and Barry Ryan Head of Production for Warp Films (Dead Man’s Shoes and Submarine).

Furthermore as with the festival’s tradition, ASFF 2012 will be once again showcasing the emerging talent in the filmmaking industry drawn from a yearly open submission call. The submissions include an impressively wide smorgasbord of international as well as home grown talent, crossing various genres of film.

ASFF will also showcase some of the best talent from the British film industry, screening many films that have already experienced great success on the UK festival circuit. The multi-award-winning Guerrier brothers (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Being Human) will be returning for a second year. Their film, Revealing Diary, will be screening alongside new award-winning talent including Calum Mcdiarmid, winner of this year’s Audience Award at Rushes Soho Shorts Festival for ASFF selection ‘82’, and Douglas Hart, whose film Long Distance Information, also appearing at ASFF 2012, has won several awards this year, including the Short Film Award at Rushes.

The Aesthetica Short Film Festival described by Professor David Fleming, Vice Chancellor of major sponsor, York St John University as ‘a fantastic addition to York’s event calendar’, this is a festival that promises to contribute to film culture across the UK and beyond. As festival director, Cherie Federico notes, we ‘couldn’t be more excited.’

For details of the full programme and to book tickets, please visit www.asff.co.uk.
