Deaf and disabled charity Attitude is Everything is partnering with dynamic events organisation Continental Drifts to give disabled musicians an opportunity to play the Trafalgar Square Live Site as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Chris Tofu Director, Continental Drifts said “We think that Attitude is Everything are a gold standard organisation.  It’s important for us that we present great acts that people love, that’s our key focus and as a organisation Attitude have them by the load. It’s also important that Attitude acts feel that they are treated exactly the same as all the other rock n roll acts, because they are the same when the music comes from the speakers.”

Committing to stage at least one disabled band per day from yesterday until September 8, Continental Drifts turned to their long-time partner Attitude is Everything to help provide some of the deaf and disabled acts.

The artists put forward for this year’s Cultural Olympiad show include gypsy-ska act Londinos (pictured), sci-fi pop group Spaceships Are Cool and punks Heavy Load.

The musical line-up (and dates) is as follows. The bands will perform from 12.30pm until 1pm:

SEPTEMBER

1 – The Fish Police

3 – Baluji Shrivastav

4 – Heavy Load

5 – Johnny Crescendo

7 – Spaceships Are Cool

8 – The Londinos

Rob Maddison of Spaceships Are Cool says: “Being able to perform in Trafalgar Square as part of the Cultural Olympiad means a huge amount to us. We have played in Trafalgar Square once or twice before but this is really extra-special as we can be part of the whole Olympic experience that has captured the heart of the nation.”

Attitude is Everything has also provided training for Continental Drifts to make all their events and festivals accessible; other Cultural Olympiad events including 40 producers for the GLA-funded Showtime and Secrets events, BT River of Music, Liberty Festival, Blue Touch Paper Carnival, Sparks in the Park – Essex County Council’s Torch Ceremony Event and Portsmouth County Council’s Torch Event have received this training.

The partnership with Continental Drifts has developed through a string of successes such as three Club Attitude (Attitude is Everything’s club night) showcases at Glastonbury Festival and two Club Attitude /  Global Local nights (Cargo 2010, Rich Mix 2011). Liberty Festival also consult Attitude is Everything on exciting up-and-coming deaf and disabled musicians and DJs, the crème of which are also displayed on Attitude is Everything’s Club Attitude events.
