“Grimsby grit” indie pop newcomers Indigo Bay are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Say What You Wanna Say’, set for release on Heist or Hit (Her’s, Pizzagirl, Brad Stank) on 21st September 2022.

The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming debut EP After Dark, which is released on 9th November 2022.

‘Say What You Wanna Say’ hits that ice-cream headache sweet spot. It’s a riot of sensory excess dispensed with economy and grace. The sun-blast guitar part is shaded by a thinning-car-radio-set-to-longwave delivery. The bass trampolines from root notes to melodic surplus. The rhythm climbs with chunky palm mutes, suppressing the sugar rush until the chorus detonates.

Commenting on the single, vocalist/guitarist Callum Minks says: “’Say What You Wanna Say’ is upbeat, summery, and talks about coming together and helping each other. It’s about holding onto your dream and chasing it. I have a bad habit of comparing myself with others which stops me from enjoying things, so the first verse is about having this dream but then feeling overwhelmed with how fast life seems to be flowing. Everyone else appears to be taking it in their stride, whereas I seem to be struggling to keep my head above the water.”

“The second verse is about reassurance. It mentions a light at the end of the tunnel and that people are around to help you get through tough times. So the song is a pick me up to make your voice heard and do what you want to do!”

“Recording it with the guys at Bam Bam Studios was really fun. As the song is about coming together, we brought producers Harry (Jordan) and Dan (Clifford-Smith) into the backing vocals. So for the chant in the chorus, we used one microphone and captured us all singing it. This was really nice because I was having a tough day mentally and it made me feel like I don’t have to do things all on my own; I can bring people in to help out.”

Being an indie band from a town seeped in post-Thatcher Nihilism and nu-metal can feel like yelling through a walkie-talkie during a hurricane. Yet from the post-industrial decline, emerge indie-heavyweights in waiting; Indigo Bay radiate the kind of airtight, low-stakes, high-serotonin indie-pop that bumps the nervous system. Addictive melodies and gigantic pop hooks that deliver the same blue-sky-whiplash as the first day of spring.

Newly signed to tastemaker giants Heist or Hit in 2022, the four-piece decamped to Bam Bam Studios within the cultural shrine of Leeds to record forthcoming debut EP After Dark with label mates Harry Jordan and Dan Clifford-Smith of Eades, and the results are scintillating.

The quartet kicked things off last month with the caffeinated fizz of stellar lead single ‘Bats’—a boisterous, bratty call to arms serving as the anthem of a band positioning themselves for success, which caught the attention of BBC Radio One new music maestro Jack Saunders,  BBC Introducing Humberside’s Alan Raw (who made it his Track of The Week), Vanyaland, Small Albums, Listen With Monger, was C-Listed at Amazing Radio, added to the BIRP! Indie Playlist and many more.

The band will be announcing further live dates and revealing more new music in the weeks to come.
