Leeds noise-rock band Fuzz Lightyear share a brand new video for their fierce new single ‘Dense Worship’ via Come Play With Me on 24th November. The diverse record label and development organisation recently announced they would be concluding their singles club with a final 7” split from Fuzz and Scottish songwriter Josephine Sillars.

Evolved from dingy basement rehearsals and raucous house shows, the four-piece has been buzzing around the city and noted for their riotous live sets. Pulling from grunge, post-punk, and sludgy noise-rock, the band, initially a three-piece, self-released their first single and EP before working with Alex Greaves (bdrmm, Pulled Apart By Horse, Working Men’s Club) on ‘Berlin 1885’, a track denouncing xenophobia.

Taking inspiration from artists like Show Me The Body, Sonic Youth and The Murder Capital, Fuzz Lightyear emerge from notorious Leeds DIY scene, bringing with them a torrent of self described ‘noise-grunge’ and leading them onto line-ups at iconic Leeds’ venues including Belgrave Music Hall and Brudenell Social Club. With tenacious focus on their live show, Fuzz Lightyear have merged into a unrelenting, noisier beast, which has led them to playing shows with the likes of Ditz, JOHN, Crows, The Wytches, KEG, CLT DRP, Thank, Spectres and more.

New self-produced single ‘Dense Worship’ see’s vocalist Ben Parry unleash a roar of captivating anguish, questioning mental health and wading through the complexities of trauma – each thought passionately conveyed with trademark yelling vocal expression.  The quartet continue to transcend away from their natural grunge state, further exploring the sounds they’re capable of conjuring together.

The video, animated and directed by Dan Woodward “tows the line between disturbing, and captivating” says singer Ben Parry. Influenced by Scalping’s use of on-stage CGI visuals, the quartet knew they had to do something similar and working with Dan allowed them to capture their envision perfectly.

A non-for-profit music development organisation specialising in supporting people from marginalised communities, Come Play With Me first launched as a singles club in 2015. CPWM are also responsible for a number of events including I Know A Place (formerly known as HERfest.

Their much-celebrated series of singles releases has been running since 2015 and has previously featured a wide line-up of incredible artists including Sunflower Thieves, Harkin, Team Picture, Treeboy & Arc, Talkboy, Fizzy Blood and many more.

The final Come Play With Me single club 7″ featuring Fuzz Lightyear & Josephine Sillars is out now.

These releases are funded with the support of Arts Council England Project Grants.

Ben Parry (vocals, guitar) on ‘Dense Worship’:

“Dense Worship is about picking apart the parts of yourself and trying to sort the good from the bad and the damaged from the healthy. Trauma affects your mind in horrific ways and causes you to be someone you know you aren’t. You cope with it in different ways and try to cover it up, but that never works out healthily. You must confront yourself to grow.”

Varun Govil (bass) on ‘Dense Worship’:

“We found Leeds based artist Dan Woodward whose style matched what we were going for beautifully. He completely got what we were going for and put together a video that matched the intensity of the track with a touch of body horror.”
