Alternative rock band Taking Back Sunday today release their cover of Weezer’s “My Name Is Jonas”. The song is released in partnership with Photo Finish Records as part of their continuing 15th anniversary celebration in 2021.

The band’s nostalgic take on Weezer’s version of “My Name Is Jonas” remains true to the original, while adding the unmistakable sound that defines Taking Back Sunday. Lead singer Adam Lazzara’s familiar and powerful vocals cut through the instrumentation with this impassioned performance.

While rare for this band to record covers, bassist Shaun Cooper told Consequence, “In 2019 we were on tour… a lot!  Over time soundcheck got pretty laborious. One day before a show in Cincinnati, OH somebody started playing the opening chords to ‘My Name is Jonas’… We all grew up listening to Weezer. Playing this song together was so much fun and broke up the monotony of day to day touring life. We started adding the song to our set list and recorded it on a day off in Buffalo NY. We love this song and we hope our rendition does it justice.”

Taking Back Sunday is currently on tour with Jimmy Eat World in the US, and will visit the UK with Alkaline Trio in March 2022.Cooper said “We have been very lucky to be able to play shows with Alkaline Trio since 2001.  We are always honoured to share a stage with a band that inspired us early on and continues to do so with every album they put out.  We cannot wait to share stages throughout the United Kingdom in 2022!”

1st Newcastle, O2 City Hall
