The brain behind the Sex Pistols and the infamous clothing shop ‘Sex‘ Malcolm McLaren has died aged 64 after a long battle with cancer.
He was diagnosed in October and in February his condition worsened until he passed away in a specialist clinic in Switzerland with his wife, Young Kim, and son by his side.
McLaren shot to notoriety in the 70s with the Sex Pistols – having songs banned from the airwaves and causing controversy with his opinions and directness he was never a shy character. He married the designer Vivienne Westwood and they opened their shop, simply called ‘Sex‘, designing and making clothes for the punk movement and this is where he met John Lydon, who later became better known as Johnny Rotten frontman of the Sex Pistols.
Punk historian John Savage has said ‘Without Macolm McLaren there would be no British Punk‘.
