S] What inspires you outside of music, think specific people, places and movies for example?

Since the music is composed by all three individuals that comprise Church of the Sea, inspiration comes from all sorts of places outside of music. Loved ones (either present or absent), a movie with an atmosphere that makes you deliver that sensation into a melody. If you would like to get specific, one riff did originate after a late night home screening of The VVitch.

S] What challenges do you face as a band?

Finding the time and resources to delve into this activity is the obvious challenge for any band. For this band in particular, a ‘good’ challenge was to try and create a sound as dark and heavy as we could with only three musicians in the band.

S] What have you learned about yourself as musicians and artists since being in a band?

We believe that all of us found out early on that this is what we would be doing for the rest of our lives. And that there’s no limit to what we can create apart from our imagination.

S] What advice would you give to others about being in a band?

Music is always a team effort, so always surround yourself with positive people that speak the same language with you. And that technical skills mean nothing!

S] What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Releasing our debut EP later in September and hitting the stage with these songs to finally get a feel of how they impact in a live environment.

S] What have been some career highlights so far?

Definitely working with Chris Common for the mix and mastering of our debut. He was incredibly easy to work with and a huge honor to collaborate with a professional of his caliber.
