S] What, or who are your great musical inspirations?

Between the five of us we have pretty varied musical inspirations, from Dave Grohl to Erykah Badu and Tom Waits to Simon Neil. We all come from different musical backgrounds and this comes through in our music.

S] What about personally, what kinds of themes and ideas can inspire your songs?

As a 5-piece band from Canada and Scotland, living in Dubai, our inspiration for the current album was centred around the idea of travelling and making wherever you are, home.

S] What song that you are working on right now best defines your sound, and why?

It’s too hard to pick just one! We all have different personal favourites on the album, which must be a good thing! The new album, ‘Home’, which we recorded at Soundstruck Studios here in Dubai, has a unique blend of acoustic instruments (grand piano, brass and string ensemble, children’s choir, and bagpipes) combined with our rock approach featuring electric guitar solos, and some heavy synth enforcement on the pop tunes.

S] Do you have a message for any UK fans?

Watch out for The Boxtones coming to you in the near future as we have been planning a tour with BBC Radio 1’s Coffee House Sessions, where you can catch us performing chilled out acoustic versions of our songs in local University coffee shops.

S] What can people expect from your live show?

Lots of energy, interaction with the crowd, encouragement to get involved, brilliant visuals, and maybe even some dancers!

S] What are some of your biggest challenges right now?

Radio play. Seems to be a constant struggle with all bands in the early stages of becoming a local success story before embracing international touring. To get the buzz going, you need a solid radio friendly hit that your new audience will want to listen to.

S] What’re your plans as we move forward in 2016?

Firstly and most importantly, promoting our new original album with our record label, Universal Music MENA. The highly anticipated release of some new material in the form of singles, music videos, vlogs and an exclusive launch party here in Dubai, will take us to new levels in the music industry, which in turn, should boost our audience globally!
