By December 5, 2022 December 6th, 2022 Band, Spotlight

I don’t love doing these things because I have so many bands I want to spotlight, but I do love sharing bands with people, some you will have heard of, some you will definitely not have. I hope you enjoy these sounds across the wide spectrum of alternative music. Here are a few of my favourite artists from 2022, heading into 2023! Big love, Dom

Crosses

Why: Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez’s shoegazing electronic rock sound is poised to break out in a massive way next year, with a new EP on the horizon.

Show Me The Body

Why: Hardcore music’s next mainstream stars. SMTB released our Album of The Year in ‘Trouble The Water’, and they are set to do bigger things in 2023.

BDRMM

Why: Hull shoegaze kings have become Yorkshire’s biggest alternative export this year, and it’s not hard to see why. Counting Mogwai and more as fans, things are looking really bright for this lot.

Big Joanie

Why: Skyscraping indie punk with massive melodies and proud energy. Big Joanie released a proper standout record in ‘Back Home’ earlier this year.

Jaws The Shark

Why: The band is bringing grunge back in a big way, with massive hooks and stadium-ready energy.

Avalanche Party

Why: Teeside’s favourite chaotic indie-glam rockers are currently recording in America, and I have a feeling that it’s going to be bloody huge.

Witch Fever

Why: Manchester’s premier genre-defying goth-punk-ish band Witch Fever has been turning heads on a national scale over the last year, and global success is just a matter of time.

Alt Blk Era

Why: The band performed at one of our live sessions earlier this year, and we fell in love with the overall energy and vibe. Get behind ’em now.

K Kow

Why: Championed by the likes of Sleaford Mods, this emerging anarcho-punk group from East Yorkshire is turning all the right heads to moove up the chain.

Junk It

Why: Solid raw punk rock energy. Absolutely blinding. Enough said.

The Battery Farm

Why: Banger after banger. No frills rage-rock anthems. Another standout album of the year too!

InTechnicolour

Why: British progressive metal at its best, and most innovative. ‘Midnight Heavyweight’ is a powerhouse of a record too.

Nova Twins

Why: Everything that you hear is true. Alternative music’s most talked about band will hit the stratosphere next year.

Bob Vylan

Why: Everything this dude gets, he deserves. I saw him perform in East Yorkshire at a stadium and absolutely smash it. Bob is Britain’s best hope when it comes to embodying the spirit of new punk music.

Petrol Hoers

Why: It’s digital horsecore. What’s not to love?

Jason Moules

Why: The former allusondrugs man is back with his own stuff, and it sounds mega.

Jodie Langford

Why: Punk poetry at its best. Jodie Langford deserves more attention, and it is coming.

Bronze

Why: I discovered this dude’s unique take on alternative hip-hop a little while ago, and his grooves still get in my head. On to big things, mate.

Soul Blind

Why: Global alt-rock’s greatest hope. All of that fine 90s nostalgia wrapped up in stacks of modern vitriol and emotion.

AP Tobler

Why: Lots of time for their classic rock pop-punk mash-up. An incredible, defiant sound.

The Rosettas

Why: Interesting post-punk sounds mixed with goth vocals and intricate classic riffs.

Holy Popes

Why: Bristol garage rock chaos with catchy hooks aplenty.

Garçons

Why: Enigmatic EBM for the masses. For the goths.

Bizarrefae

Why: Fairy-punk powerpop? Yes please. Emotionally-charged anthems galore.

Jigsaw Youth

Why: Intense, raw alt-rock with powerful vocals and sick breakdowns.

Fleshwater

Why: Bulldozing alternative metal with stunning melodies. Bloody beautiful.

Mastiff

Why: The heaviest band on this list, bar none. These dudes are taking metal, grind, and hardcore to a whole new level of awesome.

Doodseskadar

Why: One of the most innovative bands I’ve ever heard. Let alone this year. This lot have instant crossover appeal – brooding riffs, monster vocals, and more.

Kid Bookie

Why: All the coolest collabs, and one of the nicest dudes in modern nu-metal. This is next level stuff, and Bookie is taking over.

Melted Bodies

Why: Beautiful, wonderful post-punk-prog-metal chaos.

Street Grease

Why: Hitting right in the feels with brutal industrial sounds and a unique energy and vibrance all their own. One of the UK’s best emerging heavy bands.

Mascara

Why: French hardcore-influenced alternative awesomeness.

The Hazy Janes

Why: Epic, infectious garage rock that’s taking the UK by storm at the minute.
