We are incredibly pleased to announce that Independent Venue Week will launch in 2014 – venues in York (Fibbers), Leeds (The Library), Manchester (Soup Kitchen), Stoke (Sugarmill), Liverpool (Zanzibar), Sheffield (The Leadmill) and Newcastle (The Cluny) are involved. Exciting times!

The six day series of events will bring some of the coolest and most historic venues in the UK together, with each of the 18 participating bars and clubs hosting their own curated event.

Radiohead’s Philip Selway says of the launch: “Small venues are the lifeblood of British music. When you start out as a band, you aspire to playing in your local venue and feel a sense of achievement when you get a gig there. In Oxford, we grew up wanting to play at The Jericho Tavern, and were lucky enough to be signed after one of our shows there.”

Frank Turner (pictured) adds: “Without small, independent venues, there’d be no small, independent bands, and without them there’d be no big acts either; these places are the lifeblood of any music scene, and any music fan should care about them and support Independent Venue Week.”

Independent Venue Week will run from January 28 through until February 2, 2014.
