The three-day event is a 10,000 capacity scaled-down version of the legendary Download Festival
, held as part of the UK government’s post-pandemic Event Research Programme
. It will take place at its usual home of Leicestershire, England’s Donington Park
on the weekend of June 18 -20.Frontman Rou Reynolds
“After 18 months trapped inside, we cannot wait to be back in our favourite element; playing music beneath an open sky. It’s also fitting, as we have a long history with Download… 2021 being the 15th anniversary of our first time there – which also happened to be our first ever festival show! We’re incredibly proud to be headlining an event that helps to get live music back on its feet in the UK”.
The band recently released Moratorium (Broadcasts From The Interruption)
, a surprise album of recordings made during the UK’s lockdown, acting as a companion album to 2020’s Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible
, which was released in April 2020 just as the pandemic was tightening its grip. Despite the upheaval and uncertainty, Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible
entered the Official UK Album Chart at #2
, giving the band their 6th UK Top 10 album
and their highest ever album chart placing.
