Tech Review: Gadhouse Cosmo Turntable

This turntable is a sleek, and simple design that’s easy to use, and despite a flimsy needle that nearly broke off from first use (be gentle), the features and warm, rich audio quality on this model across different modes is fantastic – whether you’re listening to the radio, or cracking out your favourite vinyl records.

Accessibility

The connectivity options on this are most accessible – built-in speakers cater for every type of user (while doing this review I’m currently listening to PAERISH‘s new album via Bluetooth), but I also listened to Deftones and Birthmarks records on the vinyl player. So, there’s a way for every type of music listener to enjoy this. The instructions are clear and concise and take you through the operation of the turntable, FM Radio and/or USB simply, so there is nothing intimidating about this lovely piece of kit.

The good

It’s easy to use, as mentioned. It’s portable and way easier to move around than other turntables I have used, and it looks cool. If you’re a DJ, or beginner in the vinyl world, you will be able to find many ways to enjoy the Cosmo (check out the company’s tutorial video below). It’s also relatively inexpensive compared to other turntables in my experience, and this makes it ideal for those looking to start their vinyl journey, and looking for something that is not overly complex to play with regularly.

The bad

It’s a little flimsy in terms of wear and tear (see the above comment about the needle), but this is to be expected (I would argue) with the mobile nature of the turntable (you can pick this thing up like a lunchbox), but it’s worth mentioning if you want something more durable for the home, that you won’t be carting around to parties, or to your mates’.

Conclusion

All-in-all, the Cosmo is a great investment if you’re looking to get your first turntable and experiment musically with spinning records. It doubles up as an excellent Bluetooth speaker, and I am particularly impressed with the quality of the in-built speakers, which can be really hit-and-miss on other record players that promise so much. I’d offer a gentle challenge and say that if you’re a vinyl purist you’re not gonna wanna purchase this, but if you’re looking for something of decent quality that is affordable, then this could actually be quite perfect for you.

The Cosmo turntable is inspired by the fashion and aesthetic of the Y2K movement, reminiscent of the iconic tech of the 1990s and early 2000s with its translucent casing and cyberpunk design cues.
