Download celebrated its 20th anniversary this past weekend with a special edition of the festival spanning across four nights. With Metallica playing two sets, Slipknot and Bring Me The Horizon all headlining, the festival was a sell-out with a record breaking attendance.

As well as a record breaking attendance Download broke the UK record for merchandise sold at a festival. The festival had some of the biggest names in rock and metal playing with bands such as Parkway Drive, Ghost and Alter Bridge all descending upon Donington.

This year was a year of firsts for the festival with a rebrand for The Village now being called District X. It also featured the introduction of the Download Megastore and also the introduction of the ‘Mini Moshers’ camp.

‘Humans of Download’ was also introduced to celebrate the diversity of the festival. The live photography docuseries shared photos of attendees on the screens between acts alongside a quote explaining their love for the festival. Danny North, creative director behind the project said “This location and the beautiful people that inhabit this space fills my soul. I wanted to create a photo series that holds a mirror up to the people that make this festival what it is.”

After a huge four days the first details have been released for next year’s edition of the festival. Download 2024 will revert back to the traditional format of three headliners and will take place Friday 14 June – Sunday 16 June. Limited Early Bird tickets are available now.
