A football-free night is set to boost the audience when Canadian singer-songwriter Amelia Curran returns to The Back Room in Cottingham, East Yorkshire next week.
Curran will be performing live on Monday February 4 as she promotes her new album, ‘Spectators’. Her fans expect a strong set with high quality songs of longing and loss, which has struck a chord with Paul Sutton, owner of one of East Yorkshire’s most intimate venues. “A few people missed out on Amelia’s last show here because it clashed with the Euro 2012 match between England and Italy,” said Paul. “After England’s defeat on penalties all we can say to those people is that Amelia’s version of longing and loss is much more fun than watching the national football team, so hopefully they will come along and enjoy our replay.”
Curran, who comes from St John’s, Newfoundland, won critical acclaim for her 2008 album War Brides and the follow-up Hunter Hunter, which was named Roots and Traditional Album, of the Year at the 2010 Juno Awards.
Last year she was named best solo performer at the Canadian Folk and Roots Music Awards and followed up with the release of ‘Spectators’.
Support is to be confirmed. Doors open at 7.30pm with stage time at 8pm. Tickets priced at £10 are available from The Back Room.
